Announcement Regarding BCGEU and PEA Strikes

October 28, 2025

The Environmental Appeal Board has been informed that the British Columbia General Employees Union (BCGEU) and Professional Employees Association (PEA) have both returned to work. The BCGEU are set to vote on a collective bargaining agreement, and may return to striking if this agreement is not ratified by its members. Negotiations for a collective agreement are ongoing with the PEA.

These developments mean that the staff of the Board have returned to work. Many appeals have been delayed as a result of the strikes and the Board will attempt to return all appeals to active status as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, there may be significant delays. The Board cannot simply restart all appeals at the same time, while managing appeals filed while staff was on strike. The Board will prioritize appeals based on urgency but will endeavour to provide timely service on all appeals.

The Board also expects delayed filing fees for appeals to be submitted in short order, and will resume standard practices with respect to those fees, while allowing a reasonable time for the payment of fees that were delayed as a result of the strikes, which prevented the Board from receiving cheques.

If there are any urgent matters associated with the appeal, please feel free to contact the Case Manager assigned to the appeal. If there is not yet a Case Manager assigned, please email the Board at info@bceab.ca if you have questions or concerns.
